Patna Police Raid Turns Fatal: Cybercrime Suspect Dies in 5th Floor Escape Attempt
Patna cybercrime suspect dies after jumping from 5th floor

A late-night police operation targeting a cybercrime syndicate in Patna's Ramakrishna Nagar area ended in tragedy when one suspect died and another was seriously injured after jumping from the fifth floor of a building in a desperate bid to escape.

Fatal Escape Attempt During Raid

The incident unfolded in the Santhua area under the Ramakrishna Nagar police station jurisdiction. Acting on a specific tip-off about cyber fraud activities, a police team conducted simultaneous raids on two flats within a building owned by Anil Kumar, who lives on the ground floor with his wife. The fourth and fifth floors were rented by the alleged gang.

Officers first stormed the fourth-floor flat, successfully apprehending three individuals: the alleged gang leader Anshu Singh, Ahsan Ali from Sonpur, and a minor. Initial interrogation revealed that more gang members were hiding on the floor above.

Chaos and Tragedy Unfold

As police moved to the fifth floor, the situation turned chaotic. Four suspects, realizing they were cornered, attempted a reckless escape by jumping from the height. Hearing cries from the rear of the building, police rushed down to find two men critically injured.

The deceased was identified as Sunny Kumar, a resident of Ekangarasrai in Nalanda district. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The other injured suspect, Sonu Kumar from Jandaha in Vaishali district, survived the fall and is currently undergoing medical treatment under police custody. Three other associates managed to flee from the spot during the commotion.

Evidence and Modus Operandi

During a thorough search of the two flats, police seized a significant cache of items used in the fraudulent activities. The recovered evidence included:

  • 17 mobile phones
  • 11 debit cards
  • 3 laptops
  • 8 notebooks
  • Several bank passbooks

According to police, the gang was running online scams by posing as representatives offering fake treatment packages. They would contact potential victims and deceive them into making advance payments for non-existent medical services.

Related Cyberfraud Crackdown

In a connected development, Ramakrishna Nagar police also dismantled another interstate cyberfraud ring operating from a rented house in the Shivnagar area. In that operation, led by SHO Rajiv Kumar, four individuals were arrested and 13 cellphones containing transaction details worth lakhs of rupees were recovered.

The arrested accused in that case were identified as Chintu Kumar (Nalanda), Robin (Bengaluru), Madhusudan Reddy (Narayanpet, Telangana), and Govind Raj (Bengaluru). City SP (East) Parichay Kumar explained their method, stating, "The gang sent fake lottery win notifications via email or WhatsApp. They then demanded an advance payment of Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 as GST or processing charges to release the 'prize money,' cheating those who paid."

Investigations in both cases are ongoing to identify other gang members and trace the full extent of the financial transactions linked to these frauds.
