Patna Mechanic Gunned Down in Midday Attack Over Alleged Land Dispute
In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the community, a 35-year-old man was brutally shot dead by unidentified criminals in the Khusrupur police station area of Patna on Thursday. The victim, identified as Aftab Alam alias Mohd Munnu, son of Wali Ahmed and a resident of Lodipur village, succumbed to two bullet injuries to his chest. Alam worked as a car mechanic on Exhibition Road, leading a modest life before this tragic turn of events.
Details of the Fatal Shooting
According to police reports, the incident unfolded around noon when Alam was traveling in an e-rickshaw to the railway station to catch a train. As he reached near Samana Square, close to Infant Jesus Academy on Lodipur Road, two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire, killing him on the spot before fleeing the scene. The brazen attack occurred in broad daylight, highlighting the audacity of the perpetrators.
Family members have pointed fingers at a long-standing land dispute as the motive behind the murder. They claim that Alam had previously approached the police seeking protection for his life and property, but no action was taken, raising serious questions about law enforcement responsiveness. This allegation adds a layer of negligence to the already grim narrative.
Police Response and Investigation Efforts
Police personnel reached the spot promptly after receiving information and initiated a thorough investigation. A forensic team was called in to collect crucial evidence from the crime scene, including two empty cartridges that were recovered. The body was sent for post-mortem to ascertain further details.
Patna rural superintendent of police (SP) Kundan Kumar inspected the spot and constituted a special team led by Fatuha SDPO-2 to probe the case and arrest the accused. Senior officers, including Fatuha SDPO-2 Sanjeev Kumar Singh and Khusrupur police station in-charge Sanjeev Kumar, visited the location to supervise the investigation, underscoring the seriousness with which the case is being handled.

In a statement to the media, SP Kundan Kumar assured that the criminals would be arrested soon. He emphasized, "We will also investigate the allegations made by the family members. If the victim had submitted any application seeking protection at the police station, it will be thoroughly examined and appropriate action will be taken against the officer concerned."
Fatuha SDPO-2 Sanjeev Kumar Singh added that raids are underway to identify and arrest the perpetrators. "CCTV footage from the area is being examined to trace the accused," he stated, indicating a multi-pronged approach to solving the case.
