In a significant breakthrough, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Patna Police has arrested the prime accused in the deadly bomb attack that claimed the life of a BN College student earlier this year. The main bomb-maker was apprehended from Rajasthan after an intensive manhunt.
The Deadly Campus Attack
On May 13, during internal examinations at BN College, a routine academic day turned tragic when violent clashes erupted between student groups. The situation escalated dramatically when multiple 'sutli' bombs were hurled in the college corridor and near the main gate.
The attack proved fatal for 22-year-old Sujit Pandey, a student from Rohtas district who was struck on the head by one of the explosive devices. Despite medical efforts, the critically injured student succumbed to his injuries two days later on May 15.
Massive Protests and Initial Arrests
The shocking incident triggered widespread outrage among the student community, leading to massive protests along Ashok Rajpath. The demonstrations highlighted serious security lapses on the college campus and raised questions about student safety in educational institutions.
Following the incident, police had initially arrested three accused individuals - Deepak Kumar, Shubhankar, and Prakash Chandra. However, the mastermind behind the bomb manufacturing and supply remained at large until now.
Breakthrough Arrest in Rajasthan
City SP (Central) Diksha announced on Saturday that the SIT had achieved a major success by apprehending the fourth and primary accused, Ashish Ranjan alias Goldy, from Nokha in Rajasthan. The arrested suspect was carrying a bounty of ₹20,000 on his head.
"Ashish was identified as the main bomb-maker who sourced explosive materials, assembled the bombs, and supplied them to the attackers," revealed SP Diksha during a press interaction. "After committing the crime, he fled to Rajasthan and was working at a relative's place to evade detection."
Police officials confirmed that interrogation is currently underway to trace Ashish's entire supply chain and uncover the larger criminal network involved in the case.
Additional Arrest in Separate Operation
In a coordinated operation, the same SIT team also arrested Amit Kumar from Bhilwara, who was wanted in connection with a 2021 robbery case. Kumar, who carried a reward of ₹25,000, has been accused in multiple criminal cases and had been absconding for a considerable period.
The twin arrests mark a significant achievement for Patna Police's Special Investigation Team, demonstrating their commitment to tracking down dangerous criminals across state borders and bringing them to justice.
