In a shocking revelation from Patna, police have detailed a brutal triple murder case stemming from a bitter property dispute. The incident, which culminated in mob violence, has exposed a meticulously planned contract killing orchestrated by a local builder.
The Fatal Shooting and Mob Retribution
The chain of violence began on November 25 when land dealer Ashrafi Rai was shot dead. The assailants targeted Rai as he was sitting at his doorstep in the Gopalpur police station area. However, the two fleeing shooters did not escape. An enraged public chased them down and beat both men to death, turning a targeted killing into a triple homicide scene.
Police Unravel the Conspiracy
According to City SP (east) Parichay Kumar, the murder was directly linked to long-standing property disputes. The investigation pointed to builder Sanjay Kumar, alias Kaju Mahto, as the mastermind. "He orchestrated the contract killing for Rs 20 lakh," Kumar stated. Mahto allegedly hired his nursery employee, Parveen alias Rohan, to be one of the shooters.
The plot unraveled due to a broken promise. Mahto had assured payment to shooter Parveen and his wife, Monica Kumari, but failed to deliver. This betrayal led Monica, during police questioning, to persistently demand that the entire conspiracy be exposed, providing crucial information to the authorities.
Planning and Arrests
Police outlined the killers' preparations. A day before the crime, the shooters—Parveen and Vijay Kumar—stole a motorcycle. An associate, Parvind alias Jhunjhunu, prepared a fake number plate for the vehicle. The trio spent time together before the two shooters carried out the fatal attack on Ashrafi Rai.
Following the revelations, police have made three key arrests:
- Mastermind Sanjay Kumar alias Kaju Mahto
- Monica Kumari, the wife of shooter Parveen
- Associate Parvind alias Jhunjhunu, who provided logistical support
The case highlights the extreme lengths to which disputes over land and property can escalate in the region, involving cold-blooded planning, betrayal, and eventual mob justice. The Patna police continue their investigation into the broader network involved in this sensational crime.
