Pilibhit District Rocked by Series of Fatal Road Accidents

Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh: A tragic sequence of road accidents has left four people dead and one man with serious injuries across different locations in Pilibhit district since Sunday evening, according to local police authorities. The three separate incidents, occurring within a short timeframe, have highlighted ongoing concerns about road safety in the region.

First Accident: Motorcycle-Car Collision Claims Two Lives

The initial tragedy unfolded on Sunday evening along the Khandepur-Kesarpur road. A speeding car collided with a motorcycle, resulting in fatal consequences. The pillion rider, Mohammad Hussain, 35, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His cousin, Badruddin Ahmad, 37, who was operating the motorcycle, sustained significant injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby community health center for emergency medical attention.

In a further development, the driver of the car, identified as Rohit Mishra, 31, a forest guard by profession, also suffered injuries during the collision. Despite receiving treatment, Mishra tragically passed away on Monday, bringing the death toll from this single incident to two individuals.

Second Incident: Pedestrian Struck by Truck at Chhatri Crossing

Later that same Sunday night, around 9 PM, a second fatal accident occurred at Chhatri crossing. A truck struck Mukundi Lal Balmiki, 65, a pedestrian, who died instantly at the location. The truck driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the collision, abandoning the vehicle. However, local villagers managed to apprehend the truck's helper at the scene and subsequently handed him over to the police for further questioning and investigation.

Third Case: Elderly Woman Killed by Tractor-Trolley

In the third and final reported incident, a tractor-trolley hit Maya Devi, 75, while she was walking home along Station Road. The elderly woman suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot. Similar to the second case, the driver of the tractor-trolley fled the accident site, leaving the vehicle behind. Authorities are currently working to identify and locate the absconding driver.

Police Response and Current Status

Sungarhi Station House Officer Naresh Tyagi provided an update on the investigations, stating, "No formal case has been registered so far as we are awaiting official complaints from the families of the victims." This procedural step is standard in such incidents, where police documentation typically follows the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) by the affected parties or their relatives.

The consecutive nature of these accidents has raised serious questions about road safety measures, driver behavior, and enforcement protocols in Pilibhit district. Local authorities are expected to review traffic management and accident prevention strategies in the wake of these devastating events.
