Pilibhit Artist's Suicide Leads to Abetment Case Over Unpaid Rs 7 Lakh Loan

In a tragic incident from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, a 30-year-old man has been formally charged with abetment to suicide following the death of a 29-year-old tableau artist. The case was registered based on a written complaint filed by the deceased's sister, as confirmed by local police authorities on Monday.

Allegations of Financial Harassment and Instigation

The complainant, in her detailed statement to the police, alleged that the accused had borrowed a substantial sum of Rs 7 lakh from her brother. To arrange this amount, the young artist had reportedly taken loans from fellow performers within his community. When the artist sought repayment, the accused not only refused to return the money but also subjected him to persistent harassment.

More gravely, the sister claimed that the accused repeatedly instigated her brother to end his own life after taking the loan. This alleged psychological pressure is central to the abetment charges now filed against the man.

Timeline of the Tragic Event and Investigation

The 29-year-old artist was found deceased, hanging inside his residence on the night of January 30. According to the complaint, his sister visited the house around 9:30 AM the following day. Upon discovering the scene, she immediately informed the police.

She also handed over her brother's mobile phone to investigators. Preliminary examination of the device reportedly revealed that the deceased had communicated with the accused 23 times in the period leading up to the extreme step.

Police Action and Legal Framework

Sungarhi Station House Officer (SHO) Naresh Kumar Tyagi provided details of the legal proceedings. "The accused has been charged under BNS Section 316(2) for criminal breach of trust and BNS Section 108 for abetment to suicide," stated SHO Tyagi.

The officer confirmed that the body was sent for a postmortem examination, which conclusively established hanging as the cause of death. The mobile phone, considered a crucial piece of evidence, has been officially preserved for the ongoing investigation.

Delay in Filing the Complaint Explained

Addressing the question of why the complaint was not filed immediately after the incident, the sister explained that she was in a state of profound distress and grief following her brother's sudden death. This emotional turmoil rendered her unable to approach the police station promptly to initiate formal proceedings.

The case highlights severe issues of financial exploitation and mental harassment, leading to a tragic loss of life. Police are continuing their investigation based on the evidence collected.
