A man and a three-year-old girl sustained injuries after a portion of plaster and a ceiling fan collapsed on them in a chawl located in Maharashtra's Thane district during the early hours of Sunday, according to an official statement. The distressing incident unfolded around 3:30 am in a ground-floor room of the Tambewadi Chawl situated on the Mumbra bypass road.
Details of the Incident and Injuries
Yasin Tadvi, the chief of the civic Disaster Management Cell, provided crucial details about the event. The victims have been identified as Asif Khan, aged 32, and Asma Khan, just three years old. Asif Khan suffered a significant head injury from the falling debris, while young Asma sustained wounds to her legs. Both individuals were promptly transported to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa to receive urgent medical attention and treatment for their injuries.
Emergency Response and Structural Assessment
Following the collapse, a coordinated emergency response was swiftly initiated. A dedicated team from the disaster management cell, along with personnel from the fire department, rushed to the scene to manage the situation. They worked efficiently to clear the debris and secure the area to prevent further hazards.
Authorities have emphasized that a thorough examination of the chawl's overall condition is currently underway. This assessment aims to evaluate structural integrity and identify any potential risks to ensure the safety of residents and prevent similar incidents in the future.
