POCSO Accused Attacks Constable with Handcuffs in Bhopal

A 21-year-old man arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act caused a disturbance at the Shahjehanabad police station in Bhopal on Friday and attempted to assault a police constable using handcuffs while being escorted to court.

Incident Details

According to police officials, Constable Anil Pawak and other officers were assigned to escort the accused, identified as Sameer Qureshi alias Raja Bachcha alias Iqbal Khan, a resident of Lalghati, to court around 2:30 pm in connection with a POCSO case. During the process of securing the handcuffs, Sameer resisted and tried to attack the constable with the handcuffs. He engaged in a scuffle with the constable and obstructed police duties.

Escalation of Events

The First Information Report (FIR) states that another constable intervened and managed to separate the two. Subsequently, Sameer allegedly struck himself on the head with the handcuffs, hurled abuses at the policemen, and threatened to kill them after his release.

Legal Action

Based on the constable's complaint, the Shahjehanabad police registered a fresh case against Sameer for assault, threatening public servants, and obstructing government work. The investigation is currently underway.
