Bhilwara Police Apprehend Suspect in Cow Abuse Case After Extensive Investigation
In a significant development, Bhilwara police have successfully arrested a suspect accused of sexually abusing a cow, following a meticulous cross-state investigation that relied heavily on CCTV footage and railway route tracking. The arrest was made in Kishanganj, Bihar, near the Bangladesh border, after police traced the individual's movements through an extensive network of surveillance cameras and train records.
Complaint Filed After Viral Social Media Video
The case came to light when complainant Shivraj Gurjar approached the Kotwali police station on March 29, 2026, after viewing a disturbing social media video. The footage allegedly showed an unknown individual engaging in what was described as an "unnatural act" with a cow outside Gurjar's residence. The video rapidly gained traction online, sparking widespread public outrage and demands for immediate action.
Gurjar formally requested the "strictest possible action" against the perpetrator, prompting police to register a case under Section 9 of the Rajasthan Bovine Animal Rules 1995 and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.
Police Launch Intensive Manhunt Using Technology
Authorities revealed that the accused had previously committed a similar offense in the Bhimganj police station area of Bhilwara city. In response, three specialized investigation teams were formed under the supervision of Bhilwara City DYSP Sajjan Singh to identify and locate the suspect.
The investigation involved:
- Reviewing approximately 1,500 CCTV cameras from various sources including local shops, the railway station, and the Abhay Command Centre.
- Circulating the suspect's details to State Control, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and Government Railway Police (GRP) across Rajasthan and neighboring states.
- Analyzing train compartment footage from about 40 daily trains arriving and departing Bhilwara railway station.
- Examining CCTV records from numerous railway stations across multiple states including Ajmer, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Agra, Kanpur, Prayagraj, and Asansol.
Cross-State Tracking Leads to Arrest
Police analysis determined that the suspect had arrived in Bhilwara by train, committed the alleged crime, and departed via train. The investigative trail eventually led authorities to Kishanganj in Bihar, where the suspect was detained at the railway station and formally arrested.
The arrested individual has been identified as 56-year-old Sanjay Kumar Sahu, son of Moti Sahu, a resident of Jharkhand. The successful apprehension demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated law enforcement efforts and technological surveillance in tracking suspects across state boundaries.
This case highlights the serious legal consequences for violations of animal protection laws in Rajasthan and the sophisticated investigative methods employed by modern police forces to pursue justice even when suspects attempt to flee across state lines.
