A tragic incident occurred at the Mahabuang police station in Simdega district on Sunday, where a police constable lost his life after his service rifle allegedly discharged accidentally while he was on duty, officials confirmed. The deceased has been identified as Raju Tirkey, a resident of Tigra village under the Ratu police station area in Ranchi.

According to police reports, the incident took place around 10 am on the premises of the police station. Shrikant S Khotre, a senior police official, stated, "The jawan was killed in accidental firing. He was on duty at the Mahabuang police station, where the incident occurred around 10 am. Preliminary investigation suggests that the jawan was carrying an INSAS rifle, which went off, and he sustained serious injuries."

Following the incident, the injured constable was immediately rushed to the Sadar Hospital in Simdega. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Officials have initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the firing. The police are examining all possible angles to determine how the rifle discharged.
