Palamu Police Inspector Removed for Making Reels with Wife in Uniform on Republic Day
In a significant disciplinary action, the officer-in-charge of Hussainabad police station in Palamu district was removed from his position on Wednesday for creating social media reels while on duty and in uniform with his wife during Republic Day celebrations.
Viral Videos Trigger Immediate Action
Inspector Sonu Kumar Choudhary has been attached to the district police line until further orders after videos shot on the police station campus on Republic Day went viral across various social media platforms, sparking widespread controversy and public scrutiny.
The videos, which circulated extensively online, showed Choudhary actively filming content on the police station premises while wearing his official uniform during duty hours. In the controversial footage, he was seen making reels featuring his wife within the police station compound, even placing his official police cap on her head during the recording sessions.
Official Response and Replacement
Palamu Superintendent of Police Reeshma Rameshan confirmed the disciplinary action, stating that Inspector Choudhary was removed on grounds of indiscipline and misconduct. He has been replaced by Chandan Kumar as the new officer-in-charge of Hussainabad police station.
"Disciplinary action was initiated by the DIG, Palamu range, Kishore Kaushal after the reel went viral," SP Rameshan stated, emphasizing the seriousness with which the department viewed the incident.
Violation of Police Protocol
Police authorities clarified that creating reels or filming within police station premises is strictly prohibited, especially when officers are in uniform and on official duty. The violation becomes particularly serious when committed by an officer-in-charge of inspector rank, who holds significant responsibility within the police hierarchy.
"These are all acts of indiscipline and misconduct. No police officer in uniform has any liberty to do all these," the SP emphasized during her statement regarding the incident.
According to police sources familiar with the matter, Choudhary not only created the reels but also allegedly uploaded them to social media platforms himself, compounding the disciplinary violation. The sources noted that when a police officer, particularly one in a leadership position, engages in such behavior, it becomes punishable under departmental regulations.
The incident has highlighted ongoing concerns about police discipline and professional conduct, particularly regarding the appropriate use of social media by uniformed personnel while on duty. The swift action taken by Palamu police authorities demonstrates their commitment to maintaining protocol and discipline within the force, especially during important national occasions like Republic Day celebrations.
