Police Uncover Connection Between Two Major Heroin Smuggling Cases Involving Drones from Pakistan

In a significant development, Sriganganagar police in Rajasthan announced a major breakthrough on Monday, linking two international heroin smuggling cases that involve the use of drones from Pakistan. The investigation has connected a recent seizure of 11 kilograms of heroin to an earlier 12 kilogram consignment, both allegedly dropped by drones near the border and transported to Punjab without detection.

Recent Seizure Leads to Revelations

Superintendent of police Harishankar Yadav stated that the details of the February consignment emerged during the interrogation of five smugglers. These individuals were arrested on March 27 while attempting to collect 11 kilograms of heroin from a field at Chak 2-KND in the Rawla police station area. According to police reports, this consignment was dropped via drone from across the Pakistan border on the night of March 26.

Officials confirmed that Pakistani smugglers delivered 20 packets of heroin, each weighing 500 grams, into a farm near Chak 2-KND. The five suspects were apprehended on the spot as they arrived to retrieve the illegal substances.

Arrest of Key Accused in Earlier Case

In a related move, police arrested a key accused from Punjab on Monday in connection with the earlier smuggling case. The individual, identified as Gurvinder Singh alias Tinku, a 35-year-old resident of Fazilka district, was taken into custody. Authorities recovered the motorcycle used to transport the contraband and are currently questioning him about the broader supply chain.

Gurvinder Singh was arrested based on technical and human intelligence inputs, and has been booked under several sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Probe Uncovers Earlier Drone Drop

The investigation, led by station house officer Dinesh Saran of Suratgarh City police station, revealed that in February, members of the same criminal gang had arranged a 12 kilogram heroin drop via drone near the Sri Ganganagar border. This consignment was subsequently smuggled into Punjab successfully.

During sustained interrogation, the accused provided detailed information about this earlier operation, which had previously gone undetected by authorities.

Ongoing Investigation into Cross-Border Supply Chain

Police officials emphasized that further investigation into the cross-border supply chain is actively underway. The connection between the two cases highlights the sophisticated methods employed by smugglers, utilizing drones to bypass traditional border security measures.

This breakthrough underscores the ongoing challenges in combating international drug trafficking and the critical role of intelligence-led policing in disrupting such networks.
