A police station in-charge was seriously injured on Monday after being attacked with an axe and sickles while attempting to clear a road blockade in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district, officials said.
Incident Details
Indraj Singh, the officer in-charge of Kamarji police station, sustained severe head injuries and required 12 stitches after a group allegedly assaulted him during a protest over an encroachment dispute in Patpara village.
According to police, tensions had been simmering in the village for some time over alleged encroachment on a government access road. Residents had previously submitted complaints to local authorities demanding action, but the issue remained unresolved.
Road Blockade and Attack
Frustrated by the delay, villagers staged a road blockade around noon on Monday, disrupting traffic in the area. Upon being alerted, TI Indraj Singh reached the spot with a police team and attempted to persuade the protesters to disperse. During the intervention, some members of the crowd allegedly attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, including an axe and sickles.
The officer collapsed after sustaining serious head injuries. His colleagues rescued him from the crowd and rushed him to the district hospital in Sidhi, where he remains under treatment.
Aftermath and Investigation
Senior officials, including Churhat SDM Vikas Kumar Anand and police teams from five stations, later reached the village and brought the situation under control. Sidhi SP Santosh Kori confirmed that the officer's condition is stable and he is under observation at the hospital. Police have identified seven accused and registered a case. A few individuals have been detained, and a search is underway for the remaining suspects.
Police said raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining accused, and further investigation is in progress.
