Police recover stolen 15-kg idol, arrest two in Madhepura

In a significant breakthrough, the Madhepura police have successfully recovered a precious 15-kilogram Ashtadhatu idol and other ritual items stolen from a Hanuman temple earlier this month. The authorities have also arrested two individuals directly involved in the theft.

Swift Police Action Leads to Recovery

The theft occurred at the Hanuman temple located in Maruwaha village, under the jurisdiction of the Bharahi police station area, on January 5. Following the crime, Madhepura ASP Pravendra Bharti stated that a special police team was swiftly formed to investigate the case.

This team leveraged technical investigation methods and acted on confidential information to conduct raids at multiple suspected locations. Their diligent efforts paid off, leading to the apprehension of the accused.

Arrests and Confessions Unravel the Crime

During the operation, the police arrested two persons identified as Mohd Altaf, also known as Kaif, and Roshan. Upon interrogation, both arrested individuals confessed to their role in the temple theft.

Their confession provided crucial details, revealing that two other youths were also part of the criminal act. The police are now pursuing these additional suspects based on the disclosures made.

Precious Items Recovered

Based on the information extracted from the arrested accused, the police team managed to recover all the stolen items. The haul included the primary 15-kg Ashtadhatu (an alloy of eight metals) idol of Hanuman.

Alongside the idol, other stolen puja materials were also retrieved. The recovered items include:

  • A broken bell
  • Various brass utensils
  • Several copper utensils

The recovery of these items, especially the heavy and valuable idol, has brought relief to the local community and temple devotees. The police have demonstrated effective investigative work in cracking the case within weeks of the incident.
