Central Zone Police Crack Down on Unauthorized Air Horns in Tamil Nadu
In a significant road safety initiative, the central zone police in Tamil Nadu have conducted synchronized inspections across nine districts, resulting in the removal of unauthorized air horns from 229 vehicles. The operation, carried out over the weekend, targeted heavy vehicles using banned high-decibel horns that pose a threat to other road users, particularly two-wheeler riders on highways.
Extensive Vehicle Inspections Across Multiple Districts
Acting on instructions from Inspector General V Balakrishnan, police personnel from Trichy, Pudukottai, Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai districts conducted thorough vehicular checks on Saturday and Sunday. During these inspections, a total of 372 heavy vehicles were intercepted, with 229 found to be using prohibited air horns. The police immediately confiscated these illegal horns as part of their enforcement action.
Road Safety Awareness and Tractor Safety Measures
In collaboration with Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials, the police conducted sensitization programs for heavy vehicle drivers and operators, educating them about the dangers of using high-decibel air horns. These horns are known to cause panic and accidents among two-wheeler riders on highways due to their excessive noise levels.
Simultaneously, to address another critical safety concern in rural areas, police affixed reflective stickers to 822 tractors in Trichy, Pudukottai, and Perambalur districts. This measure specifically targets tractors operating with trailers that lack proper rear lights and indicators, which significantly increases the risk of accidents during nighttime or low-visibility conditions.
Continued Enforcement and Future Plans
The police have emphasized that these synchronized inspections are part of an ongoing effort to improve road safety across the central zone. Authorities have confirmed that similar operations will continue in the future to ensure compliance with vehicle safety regulations and reduce accident risks. This comprehensive approach combines enforcement action with public awareness campaigns to create safer road environments for all users.
