Police Rescue Hearing-Impaired Woman After Exchange of Fire with Kidnapper in Kannauj
In a dramatic rescue operation, Kanpur police successfully saved a speech-and-hearing-impaired woman who was kidnapped in Kannauj's Thathiya area on Monday afternoon. The incident culminated in an exchange of fire, during which the kidnapper was shot in the leg and subsequently apprehended by authorities.
Kidnapping Incident Unfolds in Rural Kannauj
The woman, a resident of a village under the Thathiya police station jurisdiction, was accompanying her mother to the fields when the assailant arrived in a loader vehicle. Without warning, the man forced the young woman into the loader and attempted to flee the scene. When the mother protested, she was pushed aside by the kidnapper, who then sped away with the victim.
Alert villagers immediately sprang into action upon hearing the woman's alarm. They attempted to block the loader's path by placing sticks and bushes on the road, but the determined driver plowed through the obstacles and continued towards Khairnagar. Family members promptly informed the police, setting the stage for a swift response from law enforcement.
Police Launch Intensive Search Operation
Senior police officials, including SP Binod Kumar and CO Tirwa Kulveer Singh, arrived at the Thathiya police station later in the evening. After questioning the woman's family members to gather crucial details, they deployed multiple teams with the dual objective of recovering the loader and rescuing the young woman.
Within a remarkably short span of ten hours, police successfully traced the loader to a location near Jankhat. As officers cordoned off the area, the driver attempted to escape towards a nearby jungle. In a desperate move, he opened fire at the police team, prompting an immediate response from the authorities.
Exchange of Fire Leads to Kidnapper's Capture
Police returned fire during the confrontation, with one bullet striking the kidnapper in the leg. The injury caused him to fall, allowing officers to swiftly apprehend him and safely rescue the woman from the vehicle. The kidnapper was identified as Lala, a 40-year-old resident of Hariyarpur in the Sikandra police station area of Kanpur Dehat district.
Following his capture, Lala was admitted to the government medical college located in Tirwa for treatment of his leg injury. CO Kulveer Singh confirmed that the woman had been rescued unharmed and was receiving necessary support from authorities.
This incident highlights the rapid response capabilities of Kanpur police in handling sensitive kidnapping cases, particularly those involving vulnerable individuals with disabilities.
