Polygraph Test in Missing Girl Investigation Uncovers Multiple Crimes in Uttar Pradesh
A routine polygraph test in a missing girl case in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, has unexpectedly unraveled two separate murders and an alleged suicide linked to police torture, revealing a complex web of crime spanning several years.
Initial Disappearance and Tragic Discovery
The case originated on January 8 last year when Aziz Ahmad reported his 16-year-old daughter missing from Satvan Patti village in Bareilly. Despite recovering her mobile phone approximately 800 meters from her home, police made no progress in locating the girl for several months.
In September 2025, investigators made a grim discovery in a sugarcane field near the Kailash river. Skeletal remains, clothing, and a braid of hair were recovered from the site. Subsequent DNA analysis confirmed the remains belonged to the missing teenager, transforming the investigation from a missing persons case to a murder investigation.
Police Questioning and Alleged Suicide
During their investigation, police questioned several youths who had been in contact with the victim. Among them was 18-year-old Salman, who was repeatedly summoned for interrogation. Tragically, Salman died by suicide on May 1, with his family alleging custodial torture by police and maintaining his innocence.
An FIR has been registered regarding Salman's death, and the matter remains under active investigation. Salman's father, Mohd Ashfaq, has approached the high court seeking justice, firmly believing police pressure drove his son to take his own life.
Polygraph Test Breakthrough and Arrests
The investigation took a dramatic turn when police called suspect Salim Hussain (26) for a polygraph test, suspecting his involvement in the girl's disappearance. This routine procedure triggered unexpected consequences when Salim contacted his associate, Mohd Asim (35), also known as Dr. Bengali, who operated a rural clinic in the Bhuta area.
SP (North) Mukesh Kumar Mishra explained that the polygraph test request alerted Dr. Bengali, who feared Salim might reveal an eight-year-old secret during the examination. The two men had collaborated in 2017 to murder Bengali's wife, whose body was never recovered.
Fearing exposure, the pair planned to flee to West Bengal, but police arrested them on Wednesday before they could execute their escape plan.
Confession and Ongoing Investigation
During interrogation, Salim confessed to killing the 16-year-old girl by choking her. He claimed she had been persistently pressuring him to elope, something he was unwilling to do. Police continue their search for the body of Dr. Bengali's wife from the 2017 murder, with investigations ongoing in both cases.
This complex case demonstrates how a single investigative procedure can uncover multiple layers of criminal activity, while also raising serious questions about police interrogation methods and their potential consequences.
