Political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla has made serious allegations regarding a hit-and-run incident in Pune that left his elderly mother with severe injuries requiring immediate surgical intervention. The incident occurred on Tuesday, sparking outrage and calls for swift justice from the family and political circles.
Allegations of Deliberate Attack on Senior Citizen
Tehseen Poonawalla took to social media platform X to share distressing details about the incident. According to his account, his mother, a senior citizen, had stepped out for a drive accompanied by his driver and executive assistant. While the car was being refueled at a station, she was standing by the roadside when a vehicle allegedly struck her and fled the scene without stopping.
"My mom, a senior citizen, went for a drive with my driver and executive assistant and was waiting on the side while they were tanking up gas in our car. Someone just hit her (seems deliberate) and ran away," Tehseen wrote in his initial post, expressing his suspicion that the act was intentional rather than accidental.
Serious Injuries Requiring Lifelong Medical Care
In subsequent updates, Tehseen revealed the extent of his mother's injuries and the medical treatment required. He confirmed that he had spoken with senior police officials, including the Joint Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police in Pune, to ensure proper investigation of the case.
"Mom will have to undergo hip surgery and a rod for life. Very infuriating and heartbreaking," Tehseen stated, describing the incident as "disgusting" and alleging that the perpetrator either acted with deliberate intent or chose to flee after realizing they had hit a vulnerable senior citizen.
BJP Spokesperson Confirms Incident, Demands Action
Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, who is also related to the victim, confirmed the serious nature of the incident. In his own social media post, he described the attacker as "an extremely disgusting human being" who deliberately ran over his mother before fleeing the scene.
Shehzad appealed directly to Pune City Police and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging them to ensure immediate and decisive action against the accused. "She will be undergoing surgery very soon," he wrote, emphasizing the seriousness of her injuries and the need for accountability.

The BJP leader reiterated his allegations by tagging senior police officials and the Chief Minister's Office in his posts, demanding that the perpetrator be identified and brought to justice promptly.
