Kanpur: Two men, impersonating as CBI officers, committed a daring theft in the Nayaganj area of Kanpur on Thursday evening, stealing gold jewellery worth Rs 13 lakh from a goldsmith. The incident occurred when the victim, Avnish Mishra, owner of Trimurti Jewellers in Panki, was returning from business-related work on Birhana Road with an employee.

According to police reports, the duo, wearing caps and identifying themselves as CBI officers, intercepted Mishra and his employee. They claimed to be conducting a routine check and began searching Mishra's bag. During the process, the accused allegedly assaulted the employee. Fearing for his safety, the employee fled into a nearby jewellery shop. Seizing the opportunity, the thieves grabbed the bag and escaped.
