Prayagraj: Continuing the drive against tipsy driving, over-loading, and use of pressure horns without high security number plates, the range police on Saturday night carried out a special checking drive in Pratapgarh and Fatehpur districts. Around 119 vehicle owners were found flouting the norms and more than Rs 8.90 lakh fine was collected from them.
Pratapgarh Checking Drive
A team of Pratapgarh police carried out checking at Kotila Akhtiyari toll plaza on Prayagraj-Lucknow highway on Saturday night. They caught four truck drivers under the influence of alcohol and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each. Cops also challaned 25 vehicle owners for using pressure horns and fined them Rs 10,000 each. Besides, a minor was challaned Rs 25,000 for driving without a valid licence. Rs 2.15 lakh was realised from 43 vehicle owners as fine for not installing high security number plates. Two vehicle owners using black film were also fined Rs 2,500 each.
A total of 637 drivers passing through the toll plaza were checked with the help of breath analyzers. Police challaned 75 vehicle owners and imposed fines on each of the offending drivers. Compounding fees (challans) amounting to Rs 5.35 lakh was realised.
Fatehpur Checking Drive
In Fatehpur district, cops carried out checking at Badauri and Katoghan toll plazas. They fined 25 truck drivers each Rs 10,000 for tipsy driving and realised Rs 2.50 lakh fine amount from them. Besides, 19 drivers were challaned for violating traffic norms and Rs 1.05 lakh was realised from them.
