Pratapgarh police on Wednesday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 10 to 12 unidentified individuals under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 190, 191(3), 131, 352, 351(3), 132, and 121(1). The case pertains to an alleged attack on a man identified as Gulzar Ahmed, who is an accused in cases of kidnapping, rape, and offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Incident Details
The incident took place on Tuesday when police were escorting Gulzar Ahmed for a medical examination. A group of 10 to 12 unidentified men allegedly attacked the accused, attempting to drag him out of the police vehicle. The police personnel on duty managed to prevent the mob from taking the accused away, and the situation was brought under control.
Legal Proceedings
Following the incident, Gulzar Ahmed was produced before a court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. The police have taken a firm stance against the mob's actions and have decided to lodge an FIR against the miscreants for engaging in unlawful conduct. A senior police officer stated, “A group of 10 to 12 unidentified individuals tried to drag the accused out of the vehicle. Raids are being conducted to apprehend them.”
