Two Youths Apprehended in Prayagraj Teen Abduction Case
Police in Prayagraj's Soraon area have made a significant breakthrough in a disturbing case involving a minor. On Tuesday, authorities arrested two young men near the Bhawapur toll plaza road for the alleged kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl. The arrests followed a formal complaint lodged by the girl's father, which set the investigation in motion.
Details of the Complaint and Allegations
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed at Soraon police station, the incident dates back to December 9. The teenage girl had gone to a local market to purchase vegetables when she was allegedly taken by the accused. The father identified the two men as Sachin Kumar (19) from Rahaeespur village and Vishal (20) from Bighia village.
In a serious escalation, the complainant alleged that the duo threatened to upload an objectionable video of the girl on social media platforms. This threat added a layer of digital blackmail to the already grave accusation of kidnapping.
The Accused's Version and Cross-State Journey
Following their arrest, the police interrogated the suspects. Sachin Kumar reportedly told investigators that he and Vishal were known to the girl's family and would often visit their house. Over time, Sachin claimed to have grown close to the teenager.
When the girl's family discovered their friendship, they forbade her from interacting with Sachin. Contrary to the kidnapping charges, the arrested duo asserted that the girl had voluntarily fled with them on December 9. They claimed the three traveled all the way to Umargav in Gujarat's Balsad district, where they began working as daily wage labourers.
The police, however, proceeded with the arrest based on the FIR and the serious nature of the allegations, including the threat to the girl's safety and reputation. The case highlights ongoing concerns about the safety of minors and the misuse of social media for coercion.
