Prayagraj Police Arrest Four in Assault Case Over Remarks on Wife

In a significant development, the Daraganj police in Prayagraj took swift action on Thursday by arresting four individuals. The arrests were made in connection with an alleged assault on a man who objected to objectionable comments directed at his wife near Mela Road.

Incident Details and Police Statement

According to DCP (City) Maneesh Shandilya, the incident unfolded on January 30. A group of four to five miscreants reportedly assaulted Rajnish Singh, a resident of Jhunsi, while he was traveling with his wife to the Magh Mela. The police investigation revealed that the altercation began when an unidentified man passed inappropriate remarks about Singh's wife at Panda Crossing.

Rajnish Singh, in his statement to the authorities, explained that he and his wife were on their way to take a holy dip in the Sangam. Upon hearing the offensive comments, he raised objections, which allegedly led to the miscreant and his supporters physically assaulting him. The attackers left him injured at the scene.

Legal Action and Police Clarification

Following the incident, an FIR was promptly registered under appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police have successfully apprehended four of the accused involved in the assault. However, in a clarification, the police emphasized that there was no physical assault on the woman during the altercation.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address public safety concerns, especially during large gatherings like the Magh Mela. The arrests serve as a reminder of the legal consequences for such acts of violence and harassment.
