Prayagraj: Speeding School Bus Fatally Strikes Teen, Drags Victim 20 Meters
In a tragic incident that has shocked the local community, a private school bus traveling at high speed mowed down a 13-year-old boy and dragged him for approximately 20 meters on Chakia-Barry Road in Fatehpur on Wednesday morning. The reckless driver, while attempting to flee the scene, also struck a biker who tried to intervene, leaving the motorcyclist critically injured.
Details of the Fatal Morning Incident
According to Superintendent of Police (Fatehpur) Abhimanyu Manglik, the accident occurred around 7:30 am when Ayush Kumar, a resident of Barry village, was cycling to school. The bus, which was carrying about 30 students and en route from Rakshapalpur to Shivpuri, hit Ayush with such force that he was dragged along the road before succumbing to his injuries.
In a brave but unfortunate attempt to stop the bus, a 21-year-old biker named Shalu Yadav from Baraypur chased the vehicle and demanded the driver halt. However, the driver callously hit Shalu as well, causing severe injuries that required immediate medical attention. Shalu was rushed to Manjhanpur hospital for emergency treatment.
Community Outrage and Police Response
Angered by the horrific event, local residents blocked Chakia Road for a significant period, disrupting vehicular traffic as a protest against the negligence. The police swiftly responded to the situation, leading to the arrest of the bus driver, identified as Chaman Singh from Charki. The vehicle involved in the incident has been seized by authorities.
SP Manglik stated that a joint investigation team comprising police and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) conducted an inquiry, concluding that the driver was operating the bus recklessly. This finding underscores the grave lapses in safety protocols that contributed to the tragedy.
Additional Tragic Consequences
In a heartbreaking turn of events, after learning about Ayush's death, one of his friends, who was already battling depression and illness, reportedly died from shock. Officials have noted that further details regarding this secondary incident are currently being verified to ascertain the full circumstances.
This incident highlights critical issues in road safety and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, especially concerning school transport. The community mourns the loss of young Ayush and hopes for justice and improved safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
