A tense situation unfolded in the Basna Nala area of Phaphamau, Prayagraj, on Saturday when a woman climbed atop a high water tank and threatened to end her life, prompting a massive police response and rescue operation.
Incident Details
The woman, identified as Pallavi Singh, in her mid-twenties, reportedly took the extreme step around 2 p.m. amid an ongoing dispute with her husband, Mohammad Alam. Sources indicate that Alam had filed a fraud case against her, and the couple had been locked in a prolonged conflict over property and personal belongings, with both sides lodging complaints against each other.
Eyewitness Accounts
According to eyewitnesses, Singh declared that she would not come down until the case registered against her was withdrawn. She also reportedly went live on social media from the top of the water tank, further escalating the situation and drawing a large crowd of onlookers.
Police Response
Police teams from the Phaphamau police station rushed to the scene and initiated efforts to persuade her to descend safely. Despite continuous persuasion, she remained adamant for over four hours. Senior police officials, including the area Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), were present at the site and engaged in dialogue with her. She was assured that her complaint would be examined and appropriate action would be taken as per law. Police also contacted her family members in an attempt to calm her down.
