A 38-year-old woman, who is a cancer patient, was allegedly raped by a private financer in a hotel in the Bapoli area of Panipat district. The victim also attempted suicide by consuming a poisonous substance on June 7, but neighbours rushed her to the civil hospital, where doctors saved her life.

Details of the Incident

In her complaint to the police, the woman stated that she lives separately from her husband due to a family feud and resides with her three children. She came into contact with the accused financer in January 2026, who helped her resolve some issues and subsequently began visiting her home regularly.

On June 1, the accused invited her to celebrate his birthday at a hotel on the Jalalpur bypass. According to the victim, once she entered the hotel room, he locked the door and raped her.

Subsequent Harassment and Suicide Attempt

The woman further alleged that on the night of June 7, the accused entered her house, beat her, and threatened to kill her. The mental torture drove her to consume a poisonous substance in an attempt to end her life. Neighbors noticed her condition and immediately admitted her to the civil hospital, where she received treatment and survived.

Police Action

Bapoli Station House Officer (SHO) Pawan Kumar confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

“Based on the woman’s complaint, we have registered a case and are investigating the allegations,” said SHO Pawan Kumar.

Victim’s Health Condition

Reports indicate that the woman is a cancer patient, which may have contributed to her vulnerability. The civil hospital doctors have confirmed that she is now stable.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of women in the region, especially those who are financially dependent on local moneylenders. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
