Pune Food Delivery Agent Targeted in Pre-Planned Revenge Attack

A shocking case of abduction, assault, and extortion has been registered by the Yewalewadi police in Pune, targeting a 20-year-old food delivery agent. The incident, which occurred late on Friday near Mitra Mandal Chowk, involved six assailants—three 19-year-old men and three minor boys aged between 16 and 17 years—who allegedly carried out the attack to settle an old score.

Details of the Abduction and Assault

According to the police complaint lodged by constable Lavesh Shinde of the Yewalewadi police station, the accused were known to the victim. The conflict stemmed from an altercation last week, where the delivery agent and his friends had beaten up one of the suspects over a trivial matter. In retaliation, the suspects devised a revenge plan.

On Friday evening, they placed an order for food through a delivery app, anticipating that the victim would be assigned to deliver it. The victim, unaware of the trap, picked up the parcel from Gokulnagar on Katraj-Kondhwa Road and proceeded to Mitra Mandal Chowk for delivery.

Upon reaching the junction, his motorcycle was intercepted by the assailants. They forcibly took him to an isolated spot, where they subjected him to a brutal beating. The attackers used a blunt object, causing injuries to his chest and head. Additionally, they stole his cellphone, valued at approximately Rs 20,000, and the keys to his motorcycle before abandoning him at the scene.

Police Investigation and Aftermath

The victim, despite his injuries, managed to approach the police later to report the incident. The Yewalewadi police have registered a case based on the complaint, highlighting the serious nature of the crime, which includes charges of abduction, assault, and extortion.

This case underscores growing concerns about safety for gig economy workers, such as food delivery agents, who often operate in vulnerable situations. Authorities are investigating the matter further to apprehend all involved suspects and ensure justice is served.
