Pune Police Book Two for Drunk Driving After Car Rams Shops in Early Morning Crash

Pune police have taken action against two individuals following a serious car accident in the city. The Laxminagar police station registered a case of drunk driving and rash and negligent driving. They charged a 31-year-old car driver from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and his 26-year-old co-passenger.

Details of the Incident

The incident occurred around 2.25am on Sunday. The driver lost control of the vehicle at Shahdawal Baba Chowk on Deccan College Road. The car rammed into two shops in the area. Senior inspector Ravindra Kadam provided details about the crash.

He stated that the shops were closed at the time of the accident. The car crashed directly into their shutter doors. Both occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries in the collision. Authorities took them to a nearby hospital for treatment. They were later discharged from the hospital.

Police Investigation and Actions

Police have served notices to both individuals. The notices direct them to cooperate with the ongoing investigation. Senior inspector Kadam explained the circumstances leading to the accident.

The car was travelling from Pune towards Ahilyanagar at the time of the crash. Police suspect that both occupants had consumed alcohol in Pune before beginning their journey. This suspicion forms a key part of the case against them.

Officers booked the co-passenger in the case for a specific reason. He allowed his friend to drive the car despite knowing about his inebriated condition. This decision contributed to the dangerous situation on the road.

The Laxminagar police continue to investigate the full details of the incident. They aim to determine all factors that led to the early morning crash. The case highlights ongoing concerns about drunk driving in urban areas.
