The Ravet police in Pune made a significant arrest on Sunday, apprehending an employee of a placement agency located in Hinjewadi. The individual stands accused of a disturbing scheme involving the manipulation of personal photographs and subsequent extortion demands.

According to police reports, the accused allegedly created morphed photographs of an acquaintance's fiancée and mother. These altered images were then uploaded to multiple pornographic websites without consent. The motive behind this malicious act appears to be financial gain, with the suspect reportedly demanding a substantial sum of Rs 5 lakh from the complainant to remove the objectionable content from the internet.
Police Investigation and Legal Framework
Senior Inspector Nitin Fatangare of the Ravet police provided crucial insights into the case. "Prima facie, the incident appears to have stemmed from a financial dispute between the complainant and the accused," Fatangare stated. "We seized the accused's cellphone and found the objectionable content on it."
The police have registered the case under Section 308 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to extortion offenses. Additionally, relevant sections of the Information Technology Act have been invoked to address the digital aspects of the crime, including unauthorized image manipulation and distribution.
Background and Modus Operandi
Fatangare elaborated on the relationship between the accused and the victim. "The accused and the complainant knew each other and had a dispute over money," he explained. Following this disagreement, the suspect allegedly resorted to cyber harassment as a means of retaliation and extortion.
The accused's actions extended beyond mere uploading. He reportedly shared the morphed photographs directly with the complainant, his fiancée, and their circle of friends, amplifying the psychological distress caused by the violation. This calculated approach was followed by repeated phone calls demanding payment for the removal of the content, creating a pattern of harassment and coercion.

Upon receiving the formal complaint, the Ravet police acted swiftly. "After receiving the complaint, we arrested him and issued a notice," Fatangare confirmed.
