A 30-year-old lawyer lodged a complaint with the Pune police on Monday morning, alleging that she was sexually harassed by four men in a car in the Koregaon Park area late Sunday night. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm when the woman, a resident of Ghorpadi, was in a moving car that was later halted along Mangaldas Road. According to her complaint filed with the Koregaon Park police, two men initially harassed her, and later two of their friends joined them and also molested her.
Arrests and Investigation
On Monday evening, the Koregaon Park police arrested all four men involved in the alleged crime. The police also seized the car in which the incident took place. The suspects reportedly belong to families involved in the business of automobile showrooms, renting industrial godowns, and warehouses. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated, "We registered the lawyer's complaint promptly. Our teams are investigating the case." He further added, "A few months ago, the woman had lodged a similar complaint against some men in Goa. We are collecting details of that case from the Goa police."
Sequence of Events
According to police, the lawyer had a profile on a matrimonial website. She chatted with a man on the site, and they decided to meet at a restaurant in a seven-star hotel in Mundhwa on Sunday evening. After sitting and speaking for a while, the prospective match left the restaurant. Two men at an adjacent table then invited the lawyer to join them, and she accepted. Later, the three decided to visit a pub near the Pune railway station, and the lawyer sat in their car. On the way to the pub, the two men sexually harassed her. They then called two of their friends, who also molested her.
The police are investigating the case and have assured strict action against the accused.
