In a significant breakthrough, the Pune Rural police have successfully apprehended a notorious criminal and his minor accomplice in connection with the brutal murder of a 62-year-old man in Thorandale village, Ambegaon taluka. The arrest was made after an exhaustive review of footage from more than 100 CCTV cameras, highlighting the critical role of surveillance technology in modern crime investigation.

The victim, identified as Damodar Minde, was discovered deceased in the verandah of his residence on March 31. Preliminary investigations revealed that he was bludgeoned to death with a blunt object during the early morning hours. Authorities noted that cash, a cellphone, and a gold ring, collectively valued at approximately Rs 29,000, were missing from the scene, pointing to a possible robbery motive. This incident occurred in a locality that had also witnessed attempted burglaries around the same period, raising concerns about local security.
Investigation and Arrest
A dedicated crime branch team, under the leadership of Inspector Pramod Kshirsagar, spearheaded the investigation. By meticulously examining CCTV footage from Thorandale village and surrounding areas in Parner, Ahilyanagar district, the police identified two individuals fleeing the crime scene on a motorcycle. This crucial evidence led to the arrest of Kabir Kale, a 24-year-old resident of Parner, and the detention of his minor accomplice.
Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill provided insights into the operation, stating, "While checking the CCTV footage near the crime scene, our personnel spotted two men driving away on a motorcycle. We expanded our search to over 100 cameras, which eventually led us to Kale." The police also seized the motorcycle used by the duo during their escape, further solidifying the case against them.

Kabir Kale is no stranger to the law, with a criminal record that includes nine prior cases of murder and robbery registered with both the Pune Rural and Ahilyanagar police departments. His arrest from Punewadi village in Parner, along with his minor associate, marks a significant victory for law enforcement in curbing repeat offenders.
