Major Vehicle Theft Ring Busted in Pimpri Chinchwad
In a significant crackdown on organized vehicle theft, the Pimpri police have successfully apprehended a five-member criminal gang responsible for a spree of two-wheeler thefts across various parts of Pimpri Chinchwad. The police operation, which unfolded over a dedicated investigation period, led to the recovery of a total of 37 two-wheelers and two autorickshaws, with a collective estimated value of Rs 15 lakh.
How the Police Squad Cracked the Case
Addressing the media, Assistant Police Commissioner Vishal Hire of the Pimpri Division detailed the meticulous police work behind the breakthrough. A special squad was specifically formed with the objective of detecting the rising number of vehicle theft cases in the region. This team, under the leadership of Assistant Inspector Digambar Atigre, embarked on a painstaking digital investigation.
"The squad checked over 100 CCTV footage from different crime scenes," Commissioner Hire stated. By carefully analyzing this extensive video evidence, the officers were able to piece together and establish the common routes used by the vehicle thieves, which ultimately led them to the suspects.
The Arrests and a Minor Accomplice
Following the digital trail, the police team moved in and took five individuals into custody. The arrested accused have been identified as: Mubin Shaikh (25) and Faiz Shaikh (25), both residents of Navi Sangvi; Aman Shukla (19); Sunil More (30) from Uruli Kanchan; and Raju Marathe (46) from Dehu Road.
The officer further revealed that the police have also detained a minor accomplice who was allegedly involved with the gang. The successful operation highlights the effectiveness of targeted policing and forensic analysis in tackling urban crime, bringing relief to numerous victims in the Pimpri Chinchwad area.
