The Deccan Gymkhana police in Pune have taken decisive action against illegal street vending activities that have been causing significant disruptions to public movement. Over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, law enforcement officials registered a total of 40 First Information Reports (FIRs) targeting stall operators and hawkers who were blatantly obstructing both vehicular traffic and pedestrian pathways.

Senior Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar of the Deccan Gymkhana police station provided detailed insights into the operation. "Our enforcement action commenced on Saturday afternoon and continued through Sunday evening," Nimbalkar stated. "We had issued warnings to these vendors several weeks prior, but unfortunately, none of them heeded our directives. Consequently, we have now registered formal FIRs against them and will be forwarding all cases to the appropriate court for legal proceedings."

The FIRs have been officially registered under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), India's new penal code. The charges include:

Inspector Nimbalkar elaborated on the safety hazards created by the vendors' activities. "These individuals were selling their goods directly on the carriageways and footpaths, completely blocking the movement of both vehicles and pedestrians," he explained. "This type of obstruction can easily lead to serious accidents. We have received numerous complaints from local residents who have been directly affected by these dangerous conditions."
