Pune Police Detain Five in Doctor Kidnapping and Extortion Case
Pune Rural police have taken swift action by detaining a gang of five men involved in a shocking kidnapping and extortion incident. The criminals targeted a 58-year-old medical practitioner, along with his assistant and driver, near Uruli Kanchan.
Details of the Abduction and Threats
The incident unfolded between January 10 and 12. On the evening of January 10, around 10:30 PM, the gang abducted the trio while they were driving in a car. They used sharp weapons to threaten the victims, creating a terrifying situation. In a particularly brutal act, one of the assailants bit the medical practitioner, adding to the physical and psychological trauma.
The gang made explicit death threats, warning they would kill the victim, his family members, driver, and assistant if their demands were not met. They demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh for the safe release of the kidnapped individuals.
Extortion and Release
After intense negotiations and under duress, the victims managed to arrange Rs 19 lakh in cash. The gang accepted this amount and released the trio on January 12, ending their harrowing ordeal. The quick response from the authorities followed soon after.
An officer from the Uruli Kanchan police station provided insights into the case. "Our investigations are ongoing," he stated, confirming that the police took all five accused into custody after receiving a formal complaint. The detention marks a critical step in ensuring justice for the victims.
