Pune Police and PMC Conduct Major Anti-Encroachment Operation in Vimannagar
In a significant move to address public grievances, the Pune city police and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials launched a coordinated anti-encroachment drive on Wednesday. The operation targeted unauthorized hawkers, stalls, and illegally parked vehicles across various roads and footpaths in the Vimannagar area, responding to numerous complaints from local residents.
Joint Action to Tackle Traffic and Encroachment Issues
Joint Police Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma highlighted that the initiative was prompted by a surge in complaints over recent days. "Over the last few few days, we had received many complaints from residents about encroachment and other traffic woes in the neighbourhood," Sharma stated. "Our team conducted thorough checks and confirmed widespread encroachments in the area."
Following the assessment, authorities from the police and PMC collaborated to plan a joint action, which was executed on Wednesday. This coordinated effort aimed to restore order and improve accessibility for pedestrians and motorists alike.
Substantial Clearance Achieved in Key Locations
The drive resulted in the removal of over 30 hawkers, handcarts, and stalls from roads and footpaths. Additionally, three truckloads of goods were confiscated and cleared from the site, significantly reducing obstructions in the area.
Sharma detailed the specific roads that were cleared during the operation:
- The road connecting Dutta Mandir Chowk to Nico Garden
- The road connecting Law College Chowk to Shubh Gateway Society
- Roads in the vicinity of Mantri IT Park
These actions are expected to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance safety for commuters and residents in Vimannagar.
Focus on Public Complaints and Future Measures
The anti-encroachment drive underscores the authorities' responsiveness to public concerns regarding urban management. By addressing illegal encroachments, the Pune police and PMC aim to create a more organized and pedestrian-friendly environment in the neighbourhood.
This operation serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain civic order and could pave the way for similar initiatives in other parts of Pune if needed.
