A violent incident shook the Kadachiwadi area of Chakan in Pune late on Tuesday evening. Seven men allegedly attacked a 48-year-old potter and tried to murder him using a large stone. The attack left the victim with serious head injuries.
Attack Details and Police Response
The potter was riding his motorcycle home to Medankarwadi around 8 pm when the gang forced him to stop. They verbally abused him, claiming to be local strongmen or "Bhais," and refused to let him pass through the area. The situation quickly turned violent.
"They beat up the victim and tried to bludgeon him with a big stone," stated an officer from the Chakan police station. When two bystanders attempted to intervene and save the potter, the gang members turned on them as well, hurling stones that caused head injuries to both rescuers.
Panic in the Neighborhood
The brazen attack created widespread fear among local residents. People immediately locked their houses for safety. Shopkeepers in the vicinity hurriedly pulled down the shutters of their establishments to secure their property.
"After getting the information, our team swung into action and took two accused into custody," the police officer confirmed. Authorities have registered a formal case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Legal Charges Filed
The Chakan police have invoked several serious charges against the accused. These include Section 109 for attempted murder, along with Sections 189, 190, 191, and 192 related to rioting and unlawful assembly. The injured potter has officially lodged a complaint with the police, initiating the legal process.
