Pune Crime Branch Makes Swift Arrest in Wadki Murder Case
The Pune crime branch has demonstrated remarkable efficiency by arresting a supervisor from a private company in connection with the brutal murder of an unidentified woman. The arrest was made on Thursday, just three days after the woman's body was discovered on March 3 in an open plot located along the Hadapsar-Saswad Road in Wadki.
Accused Confesses to Heinous Crime
The accused has been identified as Prakash Mane, a 29-year-old resident of Wadki Nala. According to police officials, Mane confessed during interrogation that he attempted to sexually assault the homeless woman who had been wandering in the area for several days. When she resisted his advances, he allegedly throttled her and then bludgeoned her to death using a large stone.
"The victim put up a strong resistance against the sexual assault attempt, which enraged the accused and led him to commit the murder," stated a crime branch officer involved in the investigation.
Investigation Breakthrough Through CCTV Footage
The breakthrough in the case came through meticulous examination of available CCTV camera footage. A specialized crime branch team, led by Inspector Sudarshan Gaikwad, coordinated the investigation efforts. Police constables Amit Kamble and Tanaji Deshmukh played crucial roles in scrutinizing the footage, which ultimately led them to trace and apprehend the suspect.
"Our team worked around the clock analyzing every piece of evidence. The CCTV footage proved instrumental in identifying and locating the accused," explained the investigating officer.
Parallel Investigations and Victim Identification Challenges
While the Phursungi police had initially registered the case, they faced difficulties in establishing the woman's identity. The crime branch conducted parallel investigations that proved more successful in tracking down the perpetrator. Despite the arrest and confession, authorities have yet to identify the victim, who appears to have been homeless with no known connections in the area.
The swift police action within just three days of the crime highlights the effectiveness of modern investigative techniques combined with dedicated police work. The case continues as investigators work to uncover more details about both the victim and the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
