Pune Talathi Arrested for Rs 25,000 Bribe in Land Case

The state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Pune arrested a talathi from Maan village in Mulshi taluka on Tuesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000. The bribe was demanded to make changes in land ownership records.

Details of the Arrest

The accused, identified as Santosh Rane (45), a resident of Katraj, had allegedly demanded a total of Rs 1.25 lakh from the complainant. According to an ACB officer, Rane had already accepted Rs 1 lakh earlier and was pressuring the complainant for the remaining amount.

“He was caught red-handed while accepting the remaining Rs 25,000,” the officer stated.

Background of the Case

The complainant approached Rane after his father’s death, seeking to update the ownership records of their ancestral land. The complainant wanted to add his and his brother’s names to the records. Rane allegedly demanded Rs 1.25 lakh to process the changes.

The ACB verified the demand and set up a trap at the Maan talathi office on Tuesday. “Rane was arrested while accepting Rs 25,000 from the complainant,” the officer confirmed.
