Pune: Teen fatally stabs classmate in coaching centre

A shocking incident of violence unfolded in a Pune district coaching class on Monday morning, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old student. The victim was fatally stabbed by a classmate, also 16, in what police describe as the fallout of a dispute between the two teenagers.

Chilling Details of the Morning Attack

The tragic event occurred at 8:55 AM on Monday, December 16, 2025. The location was a private coaching class for Class 10 students situated on Court Road in Rajgurunagar town, Khed taluka. This area is approximately 45 kilometers from Pune city.

According to Sandeep Singh Gill, Superintendent of Police for Pune Rural, the preliminary investigation points to a prior altercation. "Initial probe suggests that the two had a fight on December 13 towards the end of the class. The attack on Monday is believed to be a fallout of that," Gill stated. During an ongoing session, the accused juvenile allegedly attacked the victim with a knife, targeting his neck and abdomen.

Police Action and Legal Proceedings

The critically injured student was rushed to the Rural Hospital in Chandoli. Unfortunately, the doctor pronounced him dead upon arrival. The police were immediately alerted and launched a probe.

"After the incident was reported to us, a probe was launched and teams were deployed at the location. The juvenile was asked to appear at the police station and he was detained," explained SP Gill. The accused has been charged with murder and was scheduled to be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on Tuesday.

In a significant move, the police have decided to seek a trial for the accused as an adult. Additional Superintendent of Police Ramesh Chopde confirmed, "We will be moving an application seeking trial of the accused as an adult."

Broader Concerns and Safety Measures

Superintendent Gill highlighted the wider implications of this tragic event. "This incident highlights various issues with regards to safety and behavioural aspects of the school and college students," he said. The police have been engaging with educational institutions on these critical matters. "We have been interacting with the students and teachers on this aspect and we will continue to do so in the coming days," Gill added, emphasizing the need for sustained intervention and dialogue.

The case has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised urgent questions about student safety, conflict resolution among teenagers, and the mechanisms in place to prevent such extreme acts of violence in educational spaces.
