In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the community, a 15-year-old Standard X student was stabbed to death by his classmate inside a private coaching centre in Rajgurunagar, Pune. The brutal attack occurred in front of other students and a teacher on Monday morning.
A Classroom Turns into a Crime Scene
The tragic event unfolded around 9 am at a coaching institute located approximately 45 kilometres from Pune city. The assailant, also a minor and a Std X student from the same school, attacked his classmate with a knife during class hours. Eyewitness accounts state there were eight to nine other students and a teacher present in the classroom when the violence erupted.
Deputy Superintendent of Police for Khed division, Amol Mandve, provided grim details of the attack. The victim sustained fatal stab wounds to his stomach and throat, leading to his immediate demise. The attacker did not stay at the scene; he immediately fled the classroom after the stabbing.
The Escape and Surrender
Investigations reveal a premeditated element to the crime. An accomplice, also a minor, was waiting outside the coaching centre on a two-wheeler. The attacker joined him, and the two fled the scene together. However, in a surprising turn of events, they drove directly to the Khed police station, where the primary accused surrendered himself to the authorities.
The police have since detained the attacker and are questioning his accomplice. A critical piece of evidence, the knife used in the crime, was recovered from the classroom spot by the investigating team.
Root Cause: A Three-Month-Old Altercation
Initial probe by the Khed police points to a disturbing motive. The murder appears to be the violent culmination of a dispute that began about three months ago. Deputy SP Mandve stated that the suspect, during questioning, confessed to a heated argument with the deceased over "pushing each other" on a prior occasion.
The dispute was reportedly over a trivial issue, but it festered as the boy did not inform his parents, teachers, or the police about it. This lack of intervention allowed the resentment to build, ultimately exploding into fatal violence.
The police also highlighted the differing family backgrounds of the two teenagers. The victim's father is a casual worker, while the assailant's father is a farmer. In the immediate aftermath, the victim's family was inconsolable and initially refused to claim the body, demanding stringent action against the attacker. They relented only after police assurances of appropriate legal action.
Legal Action and Aftermath
The Khed police have registered a serious case under Section 103 (murder) of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused student. The parents of both the victim and the accused have been formally informed about the incident.
This gruesome case has raised serious questions about student conflicts, anger management, and the safety environment within educational spaces. It underscores the urgent need for effective counselling and mediation mechanisms in schools and coaching centres to identify and defuse such tensions before they escalate beyond control.
