Major Drug Bust in Kutch: Punjab Resident Nabbed with Heroin Worth Rs 1.9 Lakh

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Kutch East Special Operations Group (SOG) apprehended a Punjab native and confiscated heroin valued at approximately Rs 1.9 lakh during a meticulously planned operation on Saturday. The arrest occurred on the Radhanpur–Adesar national highway within Rapar taluka of Kutch district, Gujarat, marking a crucial victory in the ongoing battle against drug smuggling networks.

Intelligence-Driven Interception Leads to Seizure

Acting on a precise tip-off, law enforcement officials intercepted the accused, identified as Gurvinder Singh Dhillon, a resident of Firozpur district in Punjab. According to police statements, the total seizure, encompassing the contraband and associated items, was estimated to be worth over Rs 2.4 lakh. This operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-based policing in disrupting illicit drug supply chains.

Surveillance and Recovery Details

Kutch East Superintendent of Police Sagar Bagmar elaborated that the SOG received specific intelligence indicating Dhillon was transporting heroin in a vehicle from Radhanpur towards Adesar. In response, a dedicated surveillance team was strategically deployed along the highway, leading to the successful interception of the suspect's car. A thorough search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a suspicious substance, which subsequent analysis by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) confirmed to be heroin.

Legal Proceedings and Accused Involvement

An official offence under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at the Adesar police station. The complaint was filed by Assistant Sub-Inspector Vanrajsinh Jadeja of the Kutch East SOG. In addition to Dhillon, authorities have named Gurmeet Singh as a co-accused in the First Information Report (FIR), highlighting the collaborative nature of the alleged criminal activity.

Interrogation Insights and Broader Context

During preliminary interrogation, Dhillon reportedly confessed to procuring the heroin from Gurmeet Singh with the intention of distributing it to individual customers in the Kutch region. This revelation points to a targeted effort to infiltrate local markets with illicit substances. Police data further reveals that between January 1 and February 28, the Kutch East police registered approximately 15 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested around 18 individuals in connection with narcotics-related offences, demonstrating a sustained and proactive approach to combating drug trafficking in the area.

The arrest and seizure underscore the persistent challenges posed by interstate drug networks and the critical role of specialized police units in safeguarding communities from the scourge of narcotics.
