In a significant counter-terrorism operation, Punjab Police announced on Monday the busting of a sophisticated cross-border arms smuggling network with direct connections to Pakistan-based handlers. This development comes amid heightened security concerns following Sunday's devastating car explosion in Delhi and the recent busting of a terror module in Faridabad.
Weapons Recovered and Suspects Apprehended
The Ferozepur Police conducted the successful operation, leading to the apprehension of two key suspects: Gurpreet Singh alias Gori and Vikramjeet Singh alias Vicky. During the raid, authorities recovered six Glock 9mm pistols, four magazines, and four live cartridges, preventing these weapons from potentially reaching criminal or terrorist elements.
Police investigations revealed that Vikramjeet maintained direct communication channels with a Pakistan-based smuggler actively involved in illegal arms trafficking across international borders. Both accused individuals confessed to supplying weapons to local contacts operating under explicit directions from their Pakistani handlers.
Connections to Previous Cases and Ongoing Investigation
The arrest of these suspects has provided crucial breakthroughs in multiple ongoing investigations. Their capture helped trace an earlier case involving the procurement of an AK-47 rifle from the same cross-border network, indicating the extensive reach and operational capacity of this smuggling ring.
Punjab Police confirmed that technical analysis of seized digital devices is currently underway to completely expose the full supply chain, including identifying all foreign handlers and local collaborators involved in this dangerous network.
Context: Delhi Blast and Faridabad Terror Module
This arms network bust assumes greater significance as investigative agencies across India are actively probing a possible terror angle in Monday's Delhi car blast. The explosion occurred around 7 pm near the historic Red Fort, resulting in at least 8 fatalities and 18 injuries.
Although authorities haven't officially declared the blast as a terrorist act, the incident occurred mere hours after police busted a major terror module in Faridabad, recovering an alarming 2,900 kg of explosives, arms, and ammunition.
