Punjab Police Counter Intelligence Team Cracks Down on Narcotics Network in Amritsar

In a significant operation targeting drug trafficking, the Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of the Punjab Police has successfully busted a narcotics smuggling module in Amritsar. The crackdown led to the arrest of two operatives and the recovery of a substantial 7 kilograms of heroin from their possession.

Details of the Arrests and Seizure

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav identified the arrested individuals as Inderjeet Singh, a resident of Kalsian Khurd in Tarn Taran, and Ravinder Sharma, who hails from Gurbaksh Nagar in the Nawan Kot area of Amritsar. According to police reports, the duo was intercepted during a meticulously planned operation based on specific intelligence inputs.

The CI team received information about the suspects' movement as they were reportedly en route to deliver a consignment near Adda Bohru on the Amritsar-Jhabal road. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, police teams established checkpoints and apprehended the individuals.

Recovery of Contraband and Vehicles

During the search, authorities recovered 4 kg of heroin concealed beneath the driver's seat of a car driven by Inderjeet Singh. Additionally, 3 kg of heroin was seized from Ravinder Sharma. In connection with the case, the police also impounded a car and a motorcycle, which were allegedly used for transporting the illicit substances.

DGP Yadav emphasized that preliminary investigations indicate both accused were actively involved in transporting heroin consignments and are suspected to be part of a larger narcotics network operating in the region.

Legal Actions and Ongoing Investigations

A case has been registered under Sections 21, 25, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar. The police have stated that further investigations are underway to establish both forward and backward linkages in this case.

Authorities anticipate more arrests and recoveries in the coming days as they delve deeper into the network's operations. This bust underscores the Punjab Police's continued efforts to combat drug trafficking and dismantle organized crime syndicates in the state.
