Punjab Counter Intelligence Dismantles ISI-Backed Terror Network
In a significant security operation, the Punjab counter intelligence unit announced on Monday that it has successfully dismantled a terror module with alleged backing from Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The module was reportedly operated by Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), leading to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of critical weaponry.
Weapons Recovery and Cross-Border Links
During the operation, authorities seized two hand grenades and a foreign-made Glock pistol from the suspects. Gaurav Yadav, Director General of Police for Punjab, confirmed that the grenades bore distinct markings from the Pakistan Ordnance Factory, providing clear evidence of cross-border involvement in the terror plot.
Inter-State Coordination in Arrests
The crackdown involved coordinated efforts across state lines. One of the accused was apprehended in Ahmedabad with assistance from the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), highlighting the inter-state reach of this terror network. This collaboration underscores the widespread nature of the threat and the effectiveness of multi-agency cooperation in combating terrorism.
Planned Attacks on Police Establishments
Preliminary investigations have uncovered that the module was actively planning systematic attacks on police establishments across multiple states. The timely intervention by security forces has successfully averted potential terror strikes, preventing what could have been devastating consequences for law enforcement and public safety.
Legal Actions and Ongoing Investigations
An FIR has been registered against the arrested individuals under relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act and the Arms Act at the State Special Operation Cell in Amritsar. The DGP emphasized that security agencies are now intensifying efforts to identify and track other members associated with this network, aiming to completely neutralize the threat.
This operation marks a crucial victory in India's ongoing fight against terrorism, demonstrating the vigilance and capability of state and national security forces in preempting threats and safeguarding the nation.
