Chandigarh: In a major crackdown against the unauthorized use of hooters, sirens, and flashers on private vehicles, Punjab Police checked over 29,000 vehicles during a five-day statewide drive that commenced on June 2.
Details of the Drive
Special DGP (law and order) Praveen Sinha shared that the operation targeted private vehicles illegally using emergency equipment. Such devices are strictly reserved for emergency vehicles and essential services, and private individuals are not permitted to misuse them.
During the drive, police inspected 29,324 vehicles and removed 52 hooters, 10 sirens, and 403 flashers from unauthorized vehicles. Additionally, authorities issued 4,221 challans and impounded 48 vehicles.
Legal Consequences
Sinha warned violators of strict legal consequences, emphasizing that the drive would continue across the state. Legal action will be initiated against anyone found using flashers, sirens, or hooters without authorization.
The operation reflects the Punjab Police's commitment to enforcing traffic regulations and ensuring that emergency equipment is used only by authorized personnel.
