Arrest and Recovery
In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Tarn Taran police arrested a Punjab Police Sub-Inspector (SI) and his alleged woman accomplice on July 9, 2026. The police recovered 300 grams of heroin and Rs 1.27 lakh in suspected drug money from their possession. The arrest was made near Baba Jallan Colony in the Chabal area.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surendra Lamba identified the arrested officer as SI Sahib Singh, a resident of Majjupur in Tarn Taran, who was posted as the investigating officer (IO) at the Khalra police station. The woman was identified as Kinder Kaur, a native of Mari Udhoke village, currently residing in Baba Jallan Colony, Chabal.
Details of the Operation
Acting on a reliable tip-off, a police patrol team led by SHO Baljinder Singh of the Khalra police station intercepted a white Hyundai i20 car (PB-02-CT-8126) in which the two were travelling. The occupants were detained and their identities confirmed. During a search conducted in the presence of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sukhbir Singh, the police found 300 grams of heroin concealed in the right trouser pocket of SI Sahib Singh. Additionally, Rs 1.27 lakh, believed to be drug money, was recovered from Kinder Kaur's purse.
Legal Action and Suspension
A case under Sections 21-C, 27-A, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at the Chabal police station. SSP Lamba stated that further investigations are underway to trace the forward and backward linkages in the drug network. Police sources indicated that SI Sahib Singh and Kinder Kaur are suspected of supplying heroin to various parts of Punjab and other states. Following his arrest, SI Sahib Singh has been suspended with immediate effect.
