Senior Police Officers Take to the Streets in New Initiative
In a significant move to strengthen the uniformed presence in urban areas, top-ranking officers of the Rajasthan Police embarked on extensive three-hour foot patrols across their jurisdictions on Monday. This initiative was a direct order from the Director General of Police (DGP), Rajiv Sharma, marking a top-down approach to law enforcement visibility.
Patrols in Action Across Key Cities
The drive saw high-level officials, who typically oversee their areas from offices and via maps, personally walking the beats. In Jaipur, the patrol was led by Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal. His team included Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Admin) Yogesh Dadhich and Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Karan Sharma. Together, they conducted a foot patrol from Manak Chowk to Chandpole between 6 PM and 9 PM.
Similar scenes unfolded in other parts of the state, with Inspector Generals of Police, Police Commissioners of Jodhpur, and various District Superintendents and Deputy Commissioners of Police actively participating.
Ensuring Compliance and Stating Objectives
To ensure strict adherence to the directive, a system for real-time monitoring was put in place. Officers were instructed to upload photos and videos of their patrol activities to a dedicated WhatsApp link, which was shared through official emails. The State Control Room was tasked with disseminating these instructions and monitoring compliance across the entire police network.
Emphasizing the core purpose, DGP Rajiv Sharma stated, "The idea is to enhance police visibility. This is just the beginning, and similar activities will continue." Sanjay Agarwal, the DG (Law and Order), elaborated on the benefits, saying that the enhanced visibility of officers acts as a deterrent to criminal activities, helps in identifying trouble spots, and improves direct communication with local residents. He added that foot patrolling conveys a strong message to anti-social elements.
