Quick Police Action Saves Abducted Toddler
In a dramatic rescue operation, the Gujarat Railway Police successfully saved a two-year-old girl who was abducted from Rajkot railway station and apprehended three kidnappers within 24 hours. The incident occurred on Friday when the child wandered away from her distracted mother.
The Disturbing Abduction
The terrifying sequence of events began when the mother, Rina Ughrejiya, was engaged in a phone conversation about domestic issues with her husband. During this conversation, her young daughter managed to wander approximately 700-800 meters away from her. The trio of kidnappers seized this opportunity to abduct the child and immediately boarded a train headed toward Okha.
HM Rana, the in-charge divisional railway police officer for Western Railway in Rajkot, provided crucial insight into the kidnappers' motivation. "Bhutiya saw a crying child without a guardian, and she could not stop herself from taking her away," Rana explained, referring to 22-year-old Daksha Bhutiya, the alleged mastermind behind the abduction.
Mother's Frantic Search and Police Intervention
The background to this distressing incident reveals a family in turmoil. Ughrejiya, a mother of four children, had traveled from Delhi to her parents' house in Rajkot following a dispute with her husband. Unfortunately, she discovered their house locked upon arrival and returned to the railway station with her children.
After realizing her daughter was missing, Ughrejiya began a frantic search throughout the station. She spotted a woman wearing a blue kurta and yellow salwar holding a child she believed was her daughter. The woman was accompanied by a man dressed in a red shirt. Before Ughrejiya could reach them, the pair boarded a general coach of the Okha-bound train as it departed from the station.
Acting quickly, the distressed mother immediately approached the railway police and provided detailed descriptions of the suspects she had observed.
The 24-Hour Rescue Operation
The Gujarat Railway Police launched an intensive investigation using technical surveillance methods. B J Jadeja, a GRP police sub-inspector, described their methodology: "We checked CCTV footage at stations on the route to Okha, including Jamnagar, Khambhaliya, and Dwarka. We found the suspects de-boarding at Dwarka."
With crucial assistance from Dwarka Police, officers meticulously traced the movements of the three kidnappers. The investigation revealed that the abductors had boarded a bus returning toward Rajkot on Saturday. Police established surveillance and successfully apprehended the trio as soon as they disembarked at Madhapar crossroads in the city.
The arrested individuals include 22-year-old Daksha Bhutiya, who had been living separately from her husband due to disputes for approximately one year. Police also captured her stepbrother Sikandar Rafai and his friend Ajay Vaghela, both 19 years old.
Further investigation uncovered that Sikandar was experiencing marital problems with his wife, who resides in Jamnagar. Although the trio initially planned to travel to Jamnagar, they changed their destination to Dwarka after abducting the child and stayed in a hotel there.
The successful rescue operation demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated police work and technical surveillance in resolving kidnapping cases rapidly. The child was safely reunited with her mother, bringing a happy conclusion to what could have been a tragic situation.
