During this time, the siblings managed to access the swimming pool area. Although the pool is typically secured with a protective grill, investigators revealed that the gate was reportedly left open, allowing the children to enter unsupervised. Police statements indicate that Dipesh was swimming in the children's pool when his sister mistakenly jumped into the deeper adult pool and began to drown.
In a desperate attempt to rescue his sister, Dipesh tried to help her, but tragically, both children succumbed to the water and drowned. This sequence of events underscores the rapid and fatal nature of such accidents.
Family Background and Immediate Aftermath
The father of the children, Karan Bhandari, had arrived in Rajkot just a fortnight earlier and was employed as a housekeeping staff member within the residential society. Police officials disclosed that Bhandari was planning to send his children back to their native place in Nepal on March 31, making the tragedy even more poignant as it struck merely a day before their scheduled departure.
Residents of the building were alerted soon after the incident and rushed to the scene. The children were immediately transported to the civil hospital in an unconscious condition.
