How the Theft Was Discovered
The special investigation team (SIT) probing the theft of donations from the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has revealed that the misappropriation came to light during a routine audit. According to officials, a discrepancy of over ₹2 crore was detected in the temple's donation records, prompting the temple trust to file a complaint with the police.
The SIT, formed under the direction of the Uttar Pradesh government, has been conducting a thorough investigation. Sources indicate that the theft was carried out by a group of temple employees who manipulated the donation receipts and siphoned off funds over several months.
Details of the Probe
Investigators have so far questioned 15 individuals, including temple staff and volunteers. The SIT has also seized financial documents and digital records to trace the flow of money. “We have identified the key suspects and are gathering evidence to build a strong case,” said a senior police officer involved in the probe.
The stolen amount is believed to have been deposited in multiple bank accounts under fictitious names. The SIT is working with forensic accountants to track these transactions. The temple trust has assured full cooperation with the investigation.
Impact on Temple Operations
The theft has raised concerns about the management of donations at the Ram Temple, which receives millions from devotees worldwide. The temple trust has announced stricter financial controls, including the installation of CCTV cameras in donation collection areas and the appointment of an external auditor.
Devotees have expressed shock at the incident. “It is heartbreaking that people would steal from a holy place,” said a pilgrim from Delhi. The SIT is expected to submit its final report within a month, and authorities have promised swift action against the culprits.
